I spent much of last week feeling judged and beaten up. It seemed to me like there wasn’t a single soul satisfied with the job I’m doing in all my various roles. Of course, that’s not actually true. Not at all. But you know how it is when a thought like that enters your brainspace. You think the whole world is judging you harshly, even though in reality maybe just a few people made random comments here or there about things you could be doing differently–not necessarily better.

The problem is that I take things personally. This is something I hope to continue working on until I nip that trait once and for all (this is to say, I will be working on this for the rest of my life!). Even worse, once I perceive that someone has dumped on me–yes, that is how I sometimes perceive criticism, even the good kind–I then dump on myself, too. It is a vicious cycle of dumping and dumping and dumping. I forget that I should be nurturing myself, not hurting myself.

To start this week out better, I’m introducing a weekly bloghop! I’m making a list of all the things I am superduperfantastic at. (Such as ending a sentence in a preposition, for starters.)

Let’s collectively focus on all the things we are not only capable of but excel at, from the mundane to the extraordinary! I’ll go first:

  1. I got to work on time today. That is a huge accomplishment with a 3-year-old in tow, believe me!
  2. I spent 45 minutes of my lunch break walking briskly with my friend. So that’s actually 2 good things: catching up with one of my best friends AND getting some exercise!
  3. I have successfully avoided eating even a single piece of homemade fudge that sat just on the other side of my cubicle wall all day long. I could even smell it. My willpower has been fantastic today!
  4. I didn’t give in to my caffeine craving after lunch. Hooray!

    And it really helps to look at yourself through some positive glasses.
    I hope to join in soon.
    For now: I did an entire day of dropping off and picking up kids, taking them to swimming and gym lessons on my own and I am on schedule to take them to bed soon. I even washed my daughters hair. Thumbs up!
