Last Friday night was…let’s just say NUTS. My husband took me out for belated birthday drinks with about 12 or 13 of our best friends. There were shots involved, despite my insistence upon it being a tame night because of early Saturday morning plans with Jax and his bestie (and, let’s be honest, because I don’t enjoy drinking like I’m 22 anymore). My friends’ insistence to the contrary was stronger, though, and they were in rare form! Call me weak, but somehow I ended up having a total of 3 shots, 3 beers, and 4 hours of sleep. Ouch. But you only turn 35 once, right?
Needless to say, Saturday got off to a rough start–when I woke up at 6 am.
Yet I kept my promise to my kiddo and accompanied him to Storybook Land with his best friend, his mother, and my hangover. The thought of an hour in the car with two toddlers scared the hell out of me, but they were pretty well behaved and entertained each other the whole way down. Ok, so Jax had a huge tantrum as we were trying to leave the house, but that’s a story for another post–about toddler addictions, let’s just say.
Thank goodness for Advil, Gatorade, a cloudy day, and my kid’s best friend’s mom taking pity on me and allowing me to sit out on the scariest ride at the park! However, I didn’t sit out on the rest of the rides. I’m quite proud of myself for fighting my nausea and putting on a happy face and showing Jax a really good time after having perhaps too good a time myself the night before. It would have been easier, sure, to cancel Saturday’s trip and lay on my couch all day.
But where’s the fun in that?
And pics of me laying on the couch with a hangover wouldn’t be as cute as these, right?
- Jax and me, waiting to get on the next ride
- Maybe this was the Easter Bunny’s house (I forget)
- Sliding down Jack & Jill’s hill
- Cinderella’s pumpkin (I think)
- His favorite ride, the hot air balloon ferris wheel
- Jax got to “drive” a “car”
Despite my rough start, it was a fantastic day that I will remember forever. And now that Jax is 3, maybe the fun things we do will be things he remembers, too.

You are stronger than me! I can’t even imagine trying to ride out a hangover on 4 hours of sleep. Kudos! But I am jealous of your night out.
That is cool that he may start to remember your adventures together now – But also a bit more pressure!
This is awesome!
Storybookland is quite possibly the weirdest, creepiest place ever. But kiddos love it!
Oh, and it is completely overpriced. $25 for a kid under 2? Yeah… ugh.
