What I’ve been doing: Trying to find a remedy for 5:00 toddler meltdowns. Wearing a lot of black. Bitching about too much rain and depressing gray skies.

What I’ve not been doing: Blogging. Getting outside much this week.

What I’ve been reading: I spent most of April buried in the Fifty Shades of Gray series, like almost every woman I know. Now I’m reading Where She Went with the BlogHer Book Club. Stay tuned for my review in a few weeks! And, as always, I’m also reading a gazillion magazines and blogs.

What I’ve been watching: Girls (on HBO). Have you caught this show yet? I freaking love it. Hannah Horvath reminds me of myself as a 20-something. But definitely with a twist, as I was living in the suburbs, not in New York City, for starters. But still, all the things that plague today’s female college grads are basically the same things that plagued me & my friends a decade (or slightly more, if we’re being honest) ago, only amped up a bit. Thank god I didn’t have Twitter or a blog back then as a platform to broadcast my issues! Some things are best kept in a diary! Ha!

I’m also still loving the Netflix app on my phone  because it helps me battle insomnia. On it, I’ve been watching Friday Night Lights. Remember that show? I didn’t think I’d get into it, but a few people have recommended it to me over the past few months, so I gave it a shot and now I’m hooked. Cerebral? Nah. But I do love me  some teen drama & I’m not afraid to admit it. And Coach Eric Taylor is kinda cute. And Tim Riggins is total eye candy.

What I’ve been listening to: I guess I’m all wrapped up in nostalgia – still – because I’m watching shows that remind me of myself in or just out of college and I’m listening to music that meant so much to me during that time of my life. I’m treading the fine line between being a loser stuck in the past and being a romantic with fond memories of it.

I’ve also had a musical epiphany! If you ask me what my 5 favorite bands are, I would struggle to respond. I can name 50 bands I really like, but I would find it impossible to narrow down the list to the top 5. I’ve realized that I’m less into bands than I am into individual songs. I’m fond of putting my iPod on shuffle and hearing all my favorite songs. I have very few complete albums on there. I have a Spotify favorites list comprising songs I’ve loved for many years or just a few days. But not complete albums, for the most part. I don’t really enjoy listening to more than 2 or 3 songs in a row from the same band. But there are SO MANY SONGS that are meaningful to me. I’m a mix tape nerd to the extreme. Only with CDs and Spotify playlists.

Maybe it’s an attention deficit disorder or something. Or maybe it’s that I think life is too short to listen to songs that don’t make you feel things.

So there you have it–a post all about my current interests because I have nothing else I feel like writing today!

I’d love to hear what you’re doing, watching, listening to, or reading!

  1. Kay, so this is geeky. I’m into juicing fresh fruits and veggies, doing the 30-day shred {hello, swimsuit season is a month away and my abs need some serious toning}, and tracking my calories with the LiveStrong app. I know, I’m a total nerd. But I will say, I think it’s paying off. Oh, and I’m thinking of picking up 50 Shades of Grey after I finish Bloom. We’ll see.
