Are You Going to BlogHer?
16 Jul
Because if you are, I hate you. Ok, not hate. Envy is probably the more appropriate word choice. Can I stow away in your luggage? I’m small, and I won’t mind sharing space with your shoes–and I don’t mean that in as creepy a way as it sounds!
The Twitter has been abuzz with talk about #BlogHer11 for weeks now, despite that the first day isn’t until August 4. It can make a non-BlogHer blogger a little sad. I want to go, really I do. But it’s just not in this year’s budget. And last year? I heard all about it last year, too, but I wasn’t even a blogger then! It’s hard to remember a time when I wasn’t blogging about breastfeeding, PPD, or my favorite things, but such a time did exist.
Last July, my friend Melanie (of Baconseed) said, “You should start a blog so we can go to BlogHer together!” I responded with something about how I’ve been considering blogging for years and just hadn’t bit the bullet yet, but maybe I would. Then in September, I did it. Started this here blog, that is. But, alas, we are not going to BlogHer together this year.
Maybe next year.
Which is what I said last year.
But this time I truly intend to make it happen. It’s the newest goal on my long list. And it’s toward the top! My fingers are crossed (into this odd, painful pretzel) that BlogHer ’12 will happen in a location that’s got me totally in mind–impossible to resist because I’ve been dying to go there, warm & sunny, and easy (and cheap) to get to.
I think it’s time for me to branch out, meet some of my favorite bloggers (see my blogroll), and kick off my shoes (the really amazing ones I’ll be wearing to all the coolest BlogHer parties).

Sigh, BlogHer. I want to go too. More than anything, to meet all these lovely people I’ve been getting to know. Alas? I’m halfway across the world. I don’t even think I can get to BlogHer ’12! Sigh.
It’s a good goal to have, it’d keep you blogging and focused :) Good luck!
I thought you had to meet certain requirements to be affiliated with BlogHer, or is that just for advertising?
I am so broke, I will definitely not be making it to anything out of state for years.
It sucks for sure. I remember when I first learned what all these hashtags for conferences were. Each one on twitter was like little knives being thrown at my blog. You know, there are usually some great “Blogher at home” twitter parties including give aways. Until then, I try to not overdo the hashtag myself. Hope it works out for you next year.
I remember wistfully watching the tweets for blogher10 wishing I could go & reminding myself that I was really new, that these amazing women had been working for years honing their craft.. and then BOOM.. a miracle happened, a spot opened up to volunteer at blogher, then a sponsor fell from the sky.
Here’s hoping that a fairy blogmother happens for you & that I get a chance to celebrate with you at the conference!
Wow, there is such a thing as a volunteer opportunity at BlogHer? I’ve GOT to look into that next year! That would be awesome. And thanks for the fair blogmother wishes for me; that sounds lovely. As does possibly meeting you if I ever get to the conference!
If I wasn’t so broke…le sigh… It’s so expensive to go…like whoa expensive. Plus I’m not cool enough.
Umm, you are WAY cooler than me. I’m broke, too. But it’s right around my birthday, so maybe I can use some early bday money next year to treat myself. Or maybe I can convince my loved ones to ship me off to BlogHer as a bday gift! It would be a gift to them, too! haha. Maybe it’ll happen close to you next year, so then you can go. And we can meet!
I’ve been blogging for over a year now but had no clue it was such a big deal and that there are conferences for it until just last month I think. It would be so cool to go one. I will be in California for a week next month, but not LA. We’ll see if it ever happens.
You do know about #SummerBlogSocial, right?
No, never heard of it. But I’ll search for the hashtag & follow along! Thanks!
I’d love to go too. But I know it’s not gonna happen unless some sponsor thinks my blog is amazing and wants to fund me! Bloggy Boot Camp is coming to my town next year and I totally want to go.
Bloggy Boot Camp will be fun! You should definitely go!
I hear you–I doubt I’ll ever actually afford a blog conference. And I doubt I’ll ever get sponsored. We’ll see if I meet my goal to get to BlogHer ’12.
