New Orleans, here I come
29 Jan
There’s something I’m both looking forward to and not, at the same time–going to New Orleans this June for a business trip. It’ll be my first overnight trip away from Jax. The longest I’ve been away from him yet has been when I’m working for about 9 hours. I cannot even fathom being apart from him for 4 days. We’re still breastfeeding and part-time co-sleeping at the moment, so there’s also that to factor in potentially.
Yet I’m excited to get away for 4 days, and to a city I’ve dreamed of visiting but probably would never because it’s not in my top 5. I’m dragging my husband with me so that I actually have a good time instead of sobbing hysterically over photos of Jax the whole time. We haven’t gone away together since our honeymoon in 2007.
Best to make the best of it, since I have to go because it’s in my job description. So, with that in mind and with my new positive outlook, here’s my list of things I want to do in New Orleans this summer:
- Listen to live jazz.
- Get drunk on Bourbon Street. More than once, even!
- Eat a beignet, whatever that is.
- Check out the French Quarter (obviously).
- Shop on Canal Street.
Is there anything I’m missing that is a must-add to my list? Laissez les bons temps rouler!

And see me, right?
Dacia–I had forgotten about that! I’ll email you the dates; they’re tentative but I feel 90% certain they’ll stick and I’ll know in about a month for sure. I’ll also know in a month-ish where we’re staying. Yay! I really really hope you & Paul can drive there to hang out with me & Ian.
No suggestions for New Orleans because I’ve never been, but I’d love to go. But I bet it will be wonderful and hard at the same time. And just think: you have that heart-bursting-with-love feeling to look forward to when you see him again.
