Our first snowman together
5 Jan
We on the mid-Atlantic coast of the US got our first real snow of the season on December 26. I’m glad it didn’t occur on Christmas Day, because that would have been just a little too much. I love snow, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t enjoy traveling in it. Especially not when rushing to visit several houses on the biggest holiday of the year, while lugging bags of gifts and a teething toddler! Anywho, I’m glad it came one day later and kept that Christmas spirit going a bit longer than anticipated.
My sister came over a few days later (she comes over every week to help/hang out with Jax, for which I am grateful), so I seized the opportunity to build a snowman with her and Jax–both of whom were snowman-building virgins. (Hmm, it’s a bit odd to use the word “virgin” anything at all to describe my 16-month-old son.)
Here is a photo timeline (excuse the crap quality–these were shot on my iPhone while dodging snowballs and trying not to bite it in the shin-deep snow). I created the first tier, the lopsided mound you see in the photo below. Then my sister added her equally lopsided second tier.
After rolling ball after ball of snow, we agreed three tiers is the perfect amount of snowman for us.
But Jax wanted a fourth.
And he also wanted to feed the snowman (which has quarters for eyes, by the way. It was all we could find!). I tried to explain to him that snowmen aren’t cannibals and that he should stop trying to feed the snowman snow.
How cute is Jax? And how pathetic is our snowman?
I hear they’re predicting more snow this weekend, so we’ll have another chance to perfect our snowman building technique. Clearly, we could use some practice!

That’s it, I’m getting a haircut. These pictures closed the deal.
Super adorable! I absolutely LOVE that he was feeding the snowman :)
Nice post, to bad we dont have snow in SE asia.
Keep bloging. :-)
Cheers
nice post!Enjoyed it!
Very beautiful post James. You have a lot to teach many parents about real quality time with their kids. I can only dream of experiencing snow and having the joy of sharing it with my family. Happy snow days… that’s the best looking snowman I’ve seen in a long time !
